Top 5 Souvenirs to Give to Americans

Many people ask me what is a good gift to give their host family or friend in America when they visit them. So I put together a list of great, and simple, souvenirs to give Americans when you visit them. Most of the ideas should work for other countries as well. I double checked this list with my Saturday students and one of them even gave a great idea to add to the list.

1) Traditional Japanese Foldable Fan

Giving a gift that includes a part of your culture is one of the best ways to express your appreciation. It is also very compact, so it is easy to pack in your suitcase.

2) Chopsticks and Stand

Chopsticks seem to be one of the most requested gifts from my friends in America. To make it even better, add a cute carp shaped chopstick stand.

3) Japanese Snacks “Dagashi”

I highly recommend “Bontan Ame.” The edible wrapper makes this gift fun and interesting.

4) Oil Absorption Paper

This is the one my student recommended. (Thank you!) During the summer your skin is a mess from sweating and the humidity. These convenient papers suck the oil from your skin to help prevent break-outs.

5) Mini Can of Beer

If the person you are visiting likes alcohol, than a cute mini can of beer always gets a surprised reaction from the recipient.
