Because of the “lock down” in Tokyo and the recommendation not to go anywhere, we had an extremely hard time deciding how to spend our summer vacation. We have 2 kids who need to experience life so there is no way we can just stay home all the time. On the other hand, we are in a dire situation with the high infection rate. Therefore, the only choice was to go somewhere where there are no people.
We planned our vacation to not match the Japanese summer holiday to have even less people around. After a ton of research, we found a great campsite that made sure all campers are far apart from each other. The down side was that we had to reserve 3 months in advance.
It was so nice getting back to nature. I love starting a fire and cooking up some meat–and for the first time in my life we cooked rice over the campfire. We stayed just for one night, but I felt like it was enough. We got so much done in that one day; fireworks, roasting marshmallows, fishing, scavenger hunts, starting a fire, and all the amazing things you experience while camping.
*The meat in the picture is spare ribs. I dipped it in A1 steak sauce and slow cooked it over the fire while basting it periodically. Also, some hamburgers and corn on the cob for the kids.
