I have been having trouble keeping the students entertained and engaged while learning. Everyone is trying hard, but the best way to learn and have the information stick is to have fun while learning.
To make matters worse, being forced to social distance and not share board games and activity tools makes having fun really difficult. So I took some time to look at the problem from another angle.
In the end, I decided to start another programming project. This time I would make a set of tools, activities, and games where each student gets their own device to control their portion of the screen. I popped over to Amazon and found the smallest device I could at a reasonable price and bought eight of them.
After a few months of programming and many issues with getting eight devices to connect to the computer and work at the same time, the program is now in the beta stage and good enough to use in class.
For now, I made three modules for learning.
- Spelling: a tool for spelling practice and listening.
- Voxel: a tool to create block style art for listening and communication practice.
- Tag: an activity to teach phrases and expressions in a fast-paced situation.
I plan on making more modules, but I have some other projects that I need to finish first.
Here is a short video of two students using it at the same time.
