Christmas Crafting: Mixed Traditions

Crafting is something every child does for events in America. Birthdays, Halloween, Easter, Christmas, and just for fun. The most popular thing to make for Christmas crafting is snowflakes. I am sure even children in Japan have made them too. You know, the one where you fold the paper many times around the center and cut triangles around the edges. When you unfold the paper you have a beautiful snowflake.

Making snowflakes is a great and fun idea. However, using scissors with small energetic children can be quite nerve-racking. So this year I decided to go with something a bit safer and also cross-cultural; origami Christmas trees.

Origami is-and always has been-popular in America. Although, Americans have a hard time pronouncing the word correctly–oRigAmi.

This origami has only six steps. Making it simple enough for small children. After the base is created, just add stickers for ornaments, pre-cut paper for the top star, and sequin strings for the tinsel.

This is a very simple craft that actually looks nice, so it is great for small children. Please try it at home if you get the chance.
